Who Can Volunteer
All study visits take place at our purpose built unit at
Wythenshawe Hospital in South Manchester. You should live
within a reasonable travel distance from the unit as most studies
require a number of visits. To be eligible to join our
volunteer panel you should meet one of the criteria below:
Asthma Studies
We require men and women aged between 18 and 70 who have a
diagnosis of asthma which can be mild, moderate or severe.
COPD Studies
We require men and women over the age of 40 who have a
diagnosis of COPD (chronic bronchitis or emphysema). You should be
a current or ex-smoker with a significant smoking history.
If you meet our eligibility criteria over the
phone, we will invite you to the unit for a Screening visit.
During your visit we will assess your lung condition by means of
simple lung function tests to determine which studies you would be
suitable for.
All studies require you to attend the unit at Wythenshawe
Hospital therefore you must be fit enough to travel to the unit.
Transport by taxi can be provided if you require it.
You are allowed to participate in studies if you also have other
medical problems as long as they are under control, eg:- high blood
pressure / diabetes, arthritis. You must not currently be under
investigation for any undiagnosed problem or be awaiting major
surgery.
Healthy Volunteers
