Participating in a Study
Initially we will complete a short questionnaire over the
telephone to take some details about you and your medical history. If you are suitable you will then be registered on our volunteer
panel.
Your details will be held on our confidential
volunteer database and we will contact you by either post or
telephone when we have a suitable study for your consideration. Our
studies vary and they each have very different eligibility
requirements based on factors such as your age, medical conditions
and your medications used. Please do not worry if you do not here
from us for a while, it can sometimes take time for a suitable
study to become available.
Volunteers are free to choose whether or not they wish to
participate in specific studies: no-one is obliged to take part and
they may withdraw from a study at any time.
The attendance required for different studies varies from brief
visits, half or whole days, and overnight stays.
Procedures performed during the study usually include lung function
(breathing) tests, blood samples and other measurements such as ECG's (heart tracing) and exercise tests.
Restrictions during a Study
Sometimes there are restrictions such as
avoiding caffeine, alcohol or strenuous exercise prior to visits.
Certain medications are restricted during studies. Study specific
restrictions will always be discussed with you prior to your
participation. Our team of Doctors is always on hand should you
have any questions or require assistance.
Will I be rewarded for taking part?
You time is precious. We
pay expenses and compensate you for your time with us. The amount
varies according to the duration of the study, the number of visits
and the length of each visit you make. When we invite you to join a
study we will inform you of the payments specific to that trial.
